FINDING MY FEET AGAIN

’ve been quiet for a couple of weeks because I realised I needed a bit of a reset.

Since the cycling accident back in November, my headspace hasn't been where I'd like it to be. To be honest, I haven't quite been myself lately, and I’ve made a few mistakes while trying to navigate the fallout. Between the physical recovery and some other personal challenges, I found I was struggling to find my usual rhythm.

Getting back on the bike has been more difficult than I anticipated, and the constant back pain hasn't helped. Rather than trying to force things or over-analyse why I’m feeling this way, I decided to just hit the pause button.

This break has been about clearing the slate and finding my footing again. I’m not quite there yet, but I’m taking things one step at a time and focusing on that reset.

Tomorrow, I’m heading to York for a few days of much-needed distraction. I’m really looking forward to the change of scenery. Let's see how things go from here.

While I’m focusing on my own recovery and getting back to fitness, the story in my webcomic, Northman, continues through the rugged landscapes of Jorvikshire.

  1. Accidents of various kind have a way of shaking us both physically and mentally, and trying to get "right back in the saddle" asap might not be the best method in every case, or for every individual. Hope your time away will be encouraging as well as a distraction!

    1. I thought I could bounce back but it's not that easy. I'm pulling back and pacing myself more. Looking forward to a break away from the ordinary.

  3. Through most of January, following a nasty bug, I lacked enthusiasm and energy for anything. I feel so much better now i realised how bad I must have felt - if that makes sense. So time out and a reset is good. Enjoy York. It's a place I would like to visit.

    1. Illness and injury need to be given time, sadly modern life doesn't always allow for an adequate recovery. I love York, it's an amazing place.

  4. And let us hope that while you are up in York The River Ouse doesn't flood, carrying you off towards The Humber and out into The North Sea where "There be monsters". But in the meantime, it is nice to see you blogging again Kirt.

    1. The bad news is the Ouse has already burst it's banks so maybe the monsters will be able to glide into the city centre. Can't be worse than the monsters I see round these parts 😂😂

  6. A break away and a reset sounds like a great idea
And accidents , particularly ones where the physical repercussions ripple , hit harder and for longer that we expect
    Enjoy your time away

    1. Hi Siobhan, hope you are well. I've just taken a couple of weeks to get my head together. I'm looking forward to being in York later today. I just need to disconnect from my normal life.
