esterday was our 27th wedding anniversary. So, did we spend the day guzzling champagne and scoffing down some posh nosh? Of course not.
The day was just a normal day. Ordinary. I went to work, and later we watched a bit of telly before finishing things off with a nice cup of tea.
Of course, there were cards. I made one...
Some people might think it portrays us as a bit dull, but I think it captures that quiet companionship we have perfected over thirty-plus years. A completely ordinary, shared stillness, as I sketch away and Morticia dives into her favourite mobile game.
Today is the first day of the Tour de France—easily one of the highlights of my year. I previously wrote about the Tour disappearing behind a paywall, but thankfully the megalomaniacal broadcasters have thrown the fans a small bone. Channel 5 will be showing a one-hour highlights programme every evening at 7pm. It's not perfect, but I'm thankful for small mercies.
Again, I'm working, so I'll have to catch up when I get home. I will definitely miss those days off spent soaking in the full stages, though.
That said, I do love watching the final stage in full, and I have found out selected stages will be shown live and free on S4C, the Welsh language channel. I'm not entirely sure if my Duolingo Welsh will get me through the commentary, but this is definitely a win.
Will Tadej Pogačar make it five GC wins, or will Vingegaard deny him? Let the race commence.
The spirit of the Urban Viking—and the occasional absurdity of navigating the modern world—lives on in my webcomic, Northman.

I love the original cartoon birthday card. You appear to be poking your eyeball out with a yellow pencil while Morticia gives you the two fingered salute. As for Le Tour de France and indeed any cycling race - not for me I'm afraid. I would rather take a walk around Rotherham town centre! But hey, each to their own.
ReplyDeleteI get it, I feel the same way about the World Cup or any football, personally I'd rather binge the international pro-celebrity paint drying championship. Guessing you'll be giving the city centre a wide berth on the 22nd then?
ReplyDeleteAll being well, we will be far away on July 22nd getting sunburnt and gasping for air. I hope to bring a straw donkey back. They're so tasteful and you can't buy them here.
DeleteA fabulous card . One of the many , many things I miss as a widow is having someone to do nothing with .
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 27

Thank you, sharing our lives with someone special is truly one of the greatest gifts we ever receive. ❤️
DeleteCongratulations on your anniversary! - If I was living with a sports fan of any kind, we'd definitely need two TVs, in separate rooms... ;)
ReplyDeleteI get an hour a day with the big telly, she spends more time watching the soaps.
DeleteWE have that sort of comfortable living togetherness. Not exciting but full of love. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing Duolingo Welsh too!
Hope you're keeping up with the welsh. I do it just to connect with the language, doubt I'll ever be conversational.
DeleteHappy Anniversary! Enjoy whatever you can see of the Tour de France!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the highlights although I do miss the full stages on my days off.
DeleteI love the illustration and cartoon! Happy Anniversary to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you 😍
