THE JARL
The face of the operation. You can find the full saga in the About Me section above.
MORTICIA
The Shield-maiden and my everything. They say behind every great man is a great woman; the truth is, I’d simply be lost without her.
MY GIRLS
Harley and Rags. Raising daughters has been the greatest privilege of my life. They’re grown now, but getting time with them is still the best part of any day.
THE BOY
Atreus. My grandson and the greatest gift. Son of Rags, he has brought a new level of meaning to everything I do.
THE BEST MATE
The oath-brother. We’ve been mates since we were 16 years old. Too much history to count and a bond that’s stood the test of time.

I hope that West Wales has been informed about your impending return. All you Vikings seem to do over there is pillaging and something else that I can't remember. I think it begins with an "r".
ReplyDeleteI know you're only pulling my leg but I'll stick with respect or re-enactment for the 'R' word!
DeleteJoking aside, fascinated as I am by early medieval history, I definitely don't glamorise the brutality of the age. Much of the written record comes from monastic chroniclers who were, understandably, writing from a very one-sided perspective. The reality of Norse culture—their trade networks, craft, and the surprising level of legal autonomy held by women—is far more interesting than the old pop-culture tropes.
Don't worry, the only thing getting raided on my trip to West Wales is the local bakery for a decent Welsh cake!
The "r" word I was thinking of was relaxing. You make a good point about who records the history.
DeleteHi dear friend, the only social media I use is Blogger. I look forward to reading your posts and hope you continue here as well. I hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI've no plans of going anywhere, next year will be my silver blogging anniversary so hopefully I'll be around for a while, as I hope you will be.
DeleteYes indeed, thank you so much, dear friend!
