TELEVISION: SUBSTANCE OVER SPECTACLE
eality television simply isn’t my thing. I’ve perfected the cynical eye-roll whenever anyone mentions a new series set in a villa or a cast member from the Essex gang. My viewing loyalty is reserved for compelling narratives: gritty dramas, classic comedies, or—best of all—the witty, quick-fire brilliance of a comedy panel show or a clever sci-fi escape. These are the only programmes that truly earn a dedicated spot on my schedule. I seek substance, not spectacle.

END OF AN ERA - TOUR END
our de France isn't just a sporting event; it's arguably the premier annual spectacle in the world, and that's no exaggeration. Its truly monumental global reach is underscored by a reported cumulative television audience of 3.5 billion viewers annually*. This places the Tour as one of the planet's most-watched sporting events, frequently ranked second only to the FIFA World Cup. Each year, the race is broadcast in approximately 190 countries by around 121 different television channels, collectively delivering over 4,700 hours of TV coverage.

1912.16 FESTIVE TV ROUNDUP
As always I like to check out the television offerings. As always I've armed myself with the festive double issue of the Radio Times and a highlighter pen. Last year was a bit poor - hope it's better this year...

Star Trek Discovery season 1 came to a close last Monday (in the UK). I've had a week to digest the whole thing, so what did I think?

1802.04 DISCOVERING NEW TV
When I was a kid we had 3 television channels and the only reason people had kids were to get up and change the channel for them.
Television, some say, is having a bit of a renaissance at the moment. Some of the best screen entertainment can be found on the little glowing box in the corner of the room (Ok, I accept that there's not much about modern TVs that are little or boxlike these days, the corner isn't the most common place for them either).
