2409.02 THE WEDDING

On the 19th of August my eldest daughter, Harley, was married to her long term partner, Josh. The day was the culmination of months of organisation by Harley mainly which came together for a magical and emotional day.

The event was held at the Niagara Sports and Conference Centre in Sheffield which is the Police Sports and social club, I place I've attended many time in the past.

First of all let's cover my attire. Harley was keen for me to wear something that reflected who I am. I opted for a long military/gothic jacket embellished with a gold Mjolnir. I also took the opportunity to wear my medals. I'm sure a few people thought the medals were fake or part of a 'costume' but they are all the real thing. I have two Queen's jubilee medals and my latest, the King's Coronation Medal. All were awarded to all front line emergency services and military of which I am the former. In the evening I swapped the jacket for a waistcoat which revealed a white medieval style lace up shirt and a leather forearm brace on my right wrist.

It's no understatement to say that giving my daughter was one of the proudest moment in my life and also one of the most nerve-racking. It still feels like a dream, the actual walk. I hope I didn't mess it up and did my little girl proud.

The ceremony went off without an issue and the photos were taken. Then, before you knew it, it was time for the speeches.

This is the third speech I've done at a wedding. First as a best man, then as the Groom, now finally as Father of the Bride. I mentioned the year we've had as a family and also thanked Harley for all her hard work in organising the event. I also spoke about the difficult road to this wedding and that I believe that everything happens for a reason and how the challenging journey was necessary. I even manage to slip in a discrete Nordic Pagan ritual (hopefully) without weirding out the congregation. I finished by raising my drinking horn (yes I went there) to my daughter and new son-in-law.

The evening went off with friends and family mingling and celebrating my daughter's big day. A day that will live in my heart forever.
