THE CAPTAIN'S YULETIDE MESSAGE

ule is a special time, a moment of peace and reflection that transcends beliefs and means so much to so many. The world continues with its wars and the disasters continue it’s important to cherish the simple joys of life whilst the rich still seem bent on destruction for their own benefit.

So whilst the King is waffling on on the telly I get to deliver my message to the world.

I’m Remembering…
I am so lucky to have my family by my side on this day, so many will not be as fortunate as me. The gods have smiled on me but it's not been plain sailing getting to this table today, there have been hurdles and hoops to jump through. Family have been affected with health issues and scares which have had repercussions on all of us. There has been momentous moments and also plenty of bad luck along the way.
I’m Happy About…
This year has been a whirlwind. We welcomed our grandson, Atreus, into the world and celebrated our eldest daughter’s marriage. Morticia also reached a significant milestone birthday and we celebrated our silver wedding (albeit in a very low key way). These joyous occasions have brought immense happiness to our family.

Atreus has truly brought a new light into our lives. His smile and laughter fill our hearts with joy. As we gather around the Yuletide table, I'm filled with gratitude for the blessings in my life.

The change in government this year was welcome after 14 years of Conservative rule. It's early days but I hope things get better, and in particular fairer.
Worried About…
The world faces significant challenges, from climate change to political instability. The Americans have dealt us all a bum hand with the madness that is Trump.

Work continues to cause me concern with the politics of the command team making decisions that will have lasting repercussions on my role. The organisation is in a financial hole and will most probably end up in special measures and who knows how that would affect me. The workplace continues to cause me challenges, unnecessary ones in my opinion.
Annoyed About…
It seems that a small portion of society hoards excessive wealth while many others struggle to make ends meet. The stark contrast between the super-rich and the impoverished is a growing concern.

While homeownership is a valuable goal for many, it's crucial to provide affordable housing options for those who cannot afford to buy. Social housing plays a vital role in ensuring that everyone has a safe and secure place to live. It's time to shift our focus towards fair and equitable housing solutions that cater to the needs of all.

On a more local level the closure of my favourite pub this year has really annoyed me. The Bridge Inn was a welcoming oasis for alternative music and the people that love it. The place supported and promoted small bands from all over the world and it's loss is damaging to the wider community. It seems that the brewery and owners of the building didn't see enough profit (it was making money) in a pub that doesn't do food. This incident highlights the challenges faced by independent music venues and the importance of supporting them.
Looking Forward To…
A quieter year next year, less is more they say. Watching my Grandson grow is an honour that I appreciate everyday, I thank the gods for the gift and hope I'm around to see him prosper. We have our trip to Wales booked as always and what is becoming an annual tradition, a trip to York for the Jorvik Viking Festival. We've booked a longer trip for next year, hopefully it can serve as a belated celebration for our 25th wedding anniversary.
I’m Loving...
I'm still drawing my comic strip, I've not increased my readership but that's probably down to algorithms. All that isn't important anyway, I do it because I love it.
You can catch my cartoon strip at northman.kirt.me.uk or at instagram.com/northmantoon

My little dog, Magnus, continues to be my loyal companion and I love the time I spend with him. Our daily walks are an oasis in the madness of the world.
We’ve Been Up To…

We returned to York in February for the Jorvik Viking Festival. We also made two trips to Wales this year. Our first visit was in May for Morticia's 50th birthday. The second trip, in September, was for Rags, who couldn't join us earlier due to her pregnancy. This trip was also Atreus' first holiday.

One of the greatest honours of my life was walking my eldest daughter down the aisle to marry her long-time love, Josh. The day was filled with magic and marked the start of their beautiful story. I’ve been cherishing this moment since the day she was born.
I’m Watching
It's been a year of television farewells; this year brought an end to several beloved series. Star Trek: Discovery concluded its run, and Lower Decks will soon wrap up its final season. I also enjoyed the final season of Young Sheldon.
To fill the void, I've turned to a nostalgic rewatch of The Bill, starting from the very first episode. This classic British police drama had a significant impact on me during its original run, perhaps even inspiring my career path. With seven years already under my belt, I aim to complete the entire 26-year series by this time next year.
I Need To Do…
I'm committed to continuing my journey of self-discovery and honouring the wisdom of our ancestors. I will remain devoted to the Norse and Celtic deities and cherish my family lineage.

Thankfully once again my circle remains unbroken this year.

It's time to celebrate! As the Yule feast awaits, I wish you all a joyous Yuletide and a wonderful festive season. Let's raise a glass, goblet, or horn to the good times!

Cheers ! Iechyd da ! Skål ! makien cheres ! Na zdrowie

YULE FELICITATIONS ONE AND ALL!
