1805.07 ANOTHER YEAR CLOSER TO DEATH

So my birthday has come around again. As I get older they seem to get closer together. It's been fortunate that my birthday has fallen on the May Day bank holiday weekend this year. So what have I been up to?

There's an expectation to celebrate on your birthday, something I don't really believe in. I do think you should treat yourself somehow, do something you enjoy.

My birthday (at least for me) started a day early, on Friday. We are lucky in my part of the world to have an annual world class cycle race... The Tour de Yorkshire. Last year I rode the sportive which was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. This year I had to settle for being a spectacular, but I wanted it to be more than just watching. I decided to cycle to the stage 2 start in Barnsley. I saw some of the sign on and the depart of the mens race soaking in the fun and atmosphere. Then I rode east to cut across the route and intercept the race at roughly the halfway point. I caught it at South Elmsall just at the top of a hill. It was a great day out on the bike, the weather was perfect and the opportunity to watch world class riding is amazing.

The depart from Barnsley - yes that's Cav
The actual day of my birthday was quiet affair, my eldest daughter came over and stayed the weekend and we just spent time together as a family. All in all a perfect birthday.

So another year older, these days in have difficulty in pinpointing my exact age since I don't think of the actual number anymore, I know I'm nearly 50 - that's enough! Before I know it the next one will be here so I have to try and make the time in between count.
