1007.22 COURSE WORK

Most of this week I have been on a course at the Fire Service training centre (nothing to to with fires, just classroom space my organisation sometimes use). Initially I was questioning why I'd been sent on the course as I felt it was aimed more at supervisors level. Most of it was over my head and out of my remit. Later on into the course it's usefulness became apparent and I began to contribute to the discussions. When I call it a course it was actually an 'improvement event' designed to look at the inherent problems of a specific system and getting working more efficiently. The group became very close and efficient and we quickly solved the problem put before us.

The facilities provided by the Fire Brigade were far superior to the training facilities we normally get in house. I hope the next course I get sent on is here.

1003.18 TOUCHY FEELY

How boring has today been?

08:30 - I'm on a course today, I've just arrived and there seems to be loads attending. I'm currently stood in a small room full of about 30 people. Think I'll hide at the back.

Luckily for us the group was split into 2 groups and we were in a more manageable size of about 12. It was a course provided by do-gooders who wished to tell us about a new service that our organisation is about to provide. I was bored shitless, I'd rather have been out doing my job instead of listening to that waffle.

Not even the provided lunch managed to save the day. It was a buffet and practically everything came with cheese. I HATE CHEESE!

Finally the day wound to a close with some role plays which we had a bit of fun with. A nice cheeky getaway to boot!

0903.31 HOW TO SUCK EGGS

Boring TrainingI get to go on a number of training courses in my job. They cover a wide variety from driving to mental heath. Sometimes I get put forward for a course that I think is "right up my street". Yesterday I attended such a course. It was a trainers course to enable to deliver training to my colleagues on the forthcoming upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 (yes I know we're behind the rest of the world, we just feel lucky that we are moving into the 21st century). Boy was I wrong! It ended up being a bit of an 'Office for beginners' course and because of this I ended up sat around waiting for the others (all of whom I assumed had been chosen because of their IT skills - wrong).

It was a long day which seem to just go on and on, I left the training centre with a nasty headache. I learned nothing I couldn't have picked up in 5 minutes tinkering with the things. To clear my head and to keep my mileage up I went an cycled home via Scholes village, it was a much more gruelling ride than my usual commute and got all the frustration out of my system.
